This is a simple sequence of steps for persuading that Alan Monroe developed, starting in the 1930s and which was influenced by John Dewey's reflective thinking sequence and Maslow's Hierarchy. This sequence consists of five key elements/ steps: Capture attention – do this through storytelling, by using humor, shocking statistics, inspiring quotations, rhetorical Illustrate the need – you should illustrate/ convince audience that it has a psychological or other kind of need that is Monroe's Motivated Sequence. Monroe’s Motivated Sequence (MMS) is an organizational pattern used to develop a sense of want or need in the audience, satisfy that want or need, and to help the audience get enthused about the advantages of that solution. Monroe’s Motivated Sequence is a five-step progressive method of persuasion, developed by Alan Monroe in the mid-1930s. This method is used to encourage people to take action and prime your audience to make immediate change.
